Fall Festival Review!
Lots of Springfield FRIENDS dressed up for Halloween and came to the church for the fall festival. Mark and Vicky Stroud came as Drew Carey and Mimi, Thelma Jarvis dressed as a cowgirl leading her very own cow, and Lauren Glenn wore all pink as she showed off her Minnie Mouse outfit. Of course, the cutest outfits were worn by the children. Lauren Whitaker was a bag of jelly beans, Taiz Barata was a fairy, Blake Culler wore a goofy clown outfit, and Bella Gonzalez was a princess. Sarah Moran was the Mad Hatter, Jack Moran was a scary skeleton, and Savannah Hill dressed as Hanna Montanna. We saw pirates, ninjas, ghosts, mermaids, and princesses. We saw beautiful costumes, and we also saw very scary costumes. Julienne Barata dressed as a wizard, and I couldn’t even tell who she was when she walked in!
Halloween is a fun time. However, Halloween can also be scary when we see ghosts and goblins and witches. God says in Psalm 27:1 that He is our light and salvation, and we don’t have to be afraid of anything. Therefore, scary masks don’t need to scare us. We don’t need to be afraid of the dark, and we don’t need to be afraid of judgment or of failures, or of loneliness either. We have protection in Christ! He is our source of strength!

Inspirational Quote
Imagine darkness so thick that you can't see your own hand in front of your face.  Darkness that covers all light, all efforts to guide and direct.  Total darkness is consuming and terrifying.  In such complete blackness, one thin sliver of light is the equivalent of hope.  It provides a direction to look towards and the hope of an escape from the darkness.  It is quite simply, a comfort.
When the circumstances of life weigh heavily on you, drowning out all joy and hope, what do you do?  Some people turn their faces to the wall and hide, some run around blindly, and others become completely immobile.
Are you able to look around for the thin sliver of light that offers hope and comfort in the darkness?  It is always there - in the tenderness and promise of God's Word, in the words of a song, in the smile of a friend.  God always gives that hope.  Look for it.  Find comfort in it.
